The clearance cairns testify to agricultural activity and land management practices characteristic of Bronze Age pastoral communities exploiting the upland terrain. The arrangement and density of domestic structures within the enclosure indicate a concentrated settlement pattern typical of the Bronze Age period in the northwest of England.
