Crosby Gill prehistoric cairnfield and field system is an ancient monument located 450 metres west of Crosbythwaite in Cumberland, comprising evidence of prehistoric land use alongside later medieval settlement remains. The site contains a cairnfield typical of upland prehistoric activity, indicating Bronze Age or later prehistoric occupation and pastoral management of the landscape. Associated with this are the earthwork remains of a dispersed medieval settlement, together with lynchets, the terraced field boundaries created through centuries of ploughing on sloping ground. The monument thus represents successive phases of human land use spanning from prehistory through the medieval period.
