Crosby Gill prehistoric cairnfield and field system is an ancient monument located approximately 450 metres west of Crosbythwaite in Cumberland, comprising evidence of settlement and land use spanning multiple periods. The site contains a prehistoric cairnfield with associated field boundaries representing Bronze Age or earlier activity, alongside the remains of a dispersed medieval settlement identifiable through house platforms and related structural features. Medieval agricultural management is evident in the form of lynchets, terraced field divisions created through repeated ploughing and soil movement that modified the hillside topography. The monument demonstrates the long continuity of human settlement and farming practice in the upland landscape of the Lake District region from prehistory through the medieval period.
