Prittlewell Priory is a Cluniac monastery founded in the early twelfth century in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, established by monks from the Cluniac order whose rule emphasised liturgical observance and learning. The surviving remains comprise substantial stone walls of the priory church and domestic ranges, including parts of the presbytery, transepts, and cloister buildings that demonstrate the ambitious architectural aspirations of this important religious house. The priory declined in influence during the later medieval period and was dissolved during the Reformation, after which its lands and buildings were appropriated for secular use. The surviving masonry, though fragmentary in places, retains considerable historical and architectural significance as a physical record of monastic life and construction in twelfth-century Essex.
