Rath & souterrain is an Early Christian archaeological monument located in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The site comprises a rath, a circular earthwork characteristic of Early Christian settlement in Ireland, combined with a souterrain, an underground stone-built chamber typically associated with settlement sites of the early medieval period. Such monuments are generally dated to between the fifth and twelfth centuries, with many examples concentrated in the northern regions of the island. The combination of a defended domestic enclosure with a subsurface structure suggests occupation during a period of significant settlement activity in Early Christian Ulster.
