Ravenscraig Castle is a fifteenth-century artillery fortress situated on the Fife coast near Kirkcaldy. Built from 1460 onwards by James II, it represents one of Scotland's earliest castles designed specifically to accommodate cannon, with distinctive angular bastions engineered to support heavy ordnance. The castle comprises two D-shaped towers connected by a curtain wall, positioned to command the Firth of Forth and protect Scottish maritime interests during a period of significant royal investment in coastal defence. Though substantially ruined, the surviving stonework preserves evidence of its innovative military design and its importance as a royal stronghold during the late medieval period.
