The site comprises the substantial remains of blast furnaces that formed part of the Cyfarthfa Ironworks, one of the most significant iron production complexes in Wales during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. These furnaces represent the technological infrastructure of the industrial revolution, reflecting the development of large-scale iron smelting in South Wales during a period of major economic expansion. The surviving masonry structures, though fragmentary, preserve evidence of the engineering techniques and production methods employed at this important works.
