Rhynd is an enclosed settlement located 600 metres east-north-east of Rhynd in Perthshire, Scotland. The site occupies ground underlain by Arbuthnott-Garvock Group bedrock, a Pragian-age formation comprising predominantly sandstone with subordinate bands of conglomerate, siltstone and mudstone. This geology is characteristic of the lower Palaeozoic strata across much of Perthshire and provides a stable, locally available stone resource suitable for settlement construction.
The enclosed settlement represents a nucleated domestic settlement, likely prehistoric or proto-historic in date, defined by boundary works that enclosed a habitation area. Such settlements are widespread across lowland Scotland and the Borders, with examples ranging from Iron Age through to medieval periods.
