Roman Fort at Hadleigh is a fort of Roman date located in Essex. The site occupies a strategically significant position on the Thames estuary and dates to the later Roman period, likely established during the third or fourth century AD as part of the coastal defence system known as the Saxon Shore. Archaeological investigation and earthwork evidence suggest the fort comprised a substantial rectangular enclosure with ditches and ramparts, typical of late Roman military architecture. The monument represents an important example of Roman military infrastructure in south-eastern Britain during the period of increasing barbarian pressure on the province.
