Pippingford Park Bloomery is a Romano-British iron-working site located in Sussex, situated approximately 775 metres north-east of Pippingford House. The site represents evidence of iron smelting activity dating to the Romano-British period, when the Weald was an important centre of iron production supplying both military and civilian demand across southern Britain. The bloomery, a simple shaft furnace used for smelting iron ore, would have been operated to produce blooms of iron that could be worked into tools and other objects. Archaeological investigation of the site has revealed the characteristic remains associated with Romano-British iron production, contributing to understanding of industrial activity and resource exploitation during the Roman occupation of Britain.
