Samoya is a post-medieval enclosure located in East Lothian, Scotland, situated approximately 100 metres north-north-east of the settlement from which it takes its name. The monument is protected as a scheduled monument by Historic Environment Scotland under reference SM8753. Post-medieval enclosures of this type typically date from the sixteenth century onwards and represent changes in land management and agricultural practice during the early modern period.
The enclosure sits upon bedrock of the Stratheden Group, a Late Devonian formation comprising interbedded sandstone and conglomerate. This underlying geology would have influenced both the landscape character and the practical constraints of construction and land use at the site. The mixed nature of the bedrock, with alternating bands of coarser and finer material, is typical of the Lower Palaeozoic deposits found across East Lothian's interior.
