Saughland Enclosure, situated approximately one kilometre east-south-east of Saughland in Midlothian, is a post-medieval field enclosure. The monument comprises a rectilinear earthwork bounded by a bank and ditch, characteristic of the improved agricultural landscape of the early modern period in the Scottish Lowlands. Such enclosed fields represent the systematic reorganisation of rural land use that occurred from the sixteenth century onwards, reflecting changes in farming practice and land management during the post-medieval era. The site's survival as an archaeological monument contributes to understanding the material evidence of agricultural development in Midlothian during this period.
