Scad Head is a coast artillery battery, camp and railway located on the island of Hoy in Orkney, Scotland. The site dates from the First World War period and represents the defensive infrastructure developed to protect the naval anchorages and strategic waters surrounding Orkney. The battery installation comprised gun emplacements, associated military structures and accommodation facilities, with a light railway constructed to facilitate the movement of ammunition and supplies across the difficult terrain. The remains reflect the substantial military investment in coastal defence that characterised the northern approaches to Britain during the Great War.
