Scotston is a post-medieval settlement and field system situated 700 metres north-north-west of Perthshire, protected as a scheduled monument by Historic Environment Scotland. The site occupies ground underlain by Southern Highland Group bedrock of Middle Cambrian age, comprising psammite and pelite—metamorphic rocks that have weathered to create the distinctive soils of this upland region.
