Slingsby Castle is a ruined fortified mansion located near the village of Slingsby in North Yorkshire. Built in the early seventeenth century, probably around 1604, it was constructed by Sir Charles Cavendish as a substantial residential structure in the prevailing Jacobean style. The castle features an unusual design with a central tower surrounded by corner bastions, reflecting contemporary defensive thinking, though it functioned primarily as a gentleman's residence rather than a military stronghold. The structure was damaged during the English Civil War and subsequently fell into decline, leaving today substantial ruins that demonstrate the architectural ambitions of the Yorkshire gentry during the early modern period.
