St Michael's Church is a late medieval tower situated at the summit of Glastonbury Tor in Somerset, constructed in the fifteenth century as a replacement for an earlier church dedicated to the same saint. The tower, which stands approximately thirty feet high, is built of local stone and represents the final phase of religious occupation on the Tor, serving the parish and pilgrims visiting the site. Beneath and around the tower lie substantial archaeological remains of earlier monastic buildings and settlement features spanning the medieval period, indicating continuous religious and residential use of this prominent hilltop location. The Tor, rising dramatically from the surrounding Somerset Levels, functioned as a centre of Christian devotion from at least the early medieval period onwards, with its commanding position and archaeological deposits providing evidence of occupation across several centuries.
