History & significance

Standing stones (2) is a remains of a megalithic tomb located in County Down, Northern Ireland. The monument comprises two standing stones that represent the surviving elements of a prehistoric megalithic structure, likely dating to the Neolithic period when such communal burial monuments were constructed across the island of Ireland. The stones are remnants of what would have originally been a more substantial chambered cairn or similar megalithic form, though the greater part of the monument has been lost to time and land use.
