Steinhead Fort is an Iron Age fortified settlement located 550 metres east-south-east of Isle Farm in Wigtownshire, south-western Scotland. The site comprises a univallate hill fort, defined by a single defensive rampart, characteristic of Iron Age settlement patterns in the south-western region during the later prehistoric period. The fort occupies a strategic location overlooking the surrounding landscape, typical of such installations which served defensive and administrative functions for local communities. Steinhead represents the archaeological evidence of Iron Age territorial organisation and settlement hierarchy in Dumfries and Galloway.
