Durobrivae is a Roman fort and walled town located near Water Newton in Huntingdonshire, whose occupation spans the first and second centuries AD. The site comprises the defended settlement itself together with substantial suburban development extending to the south, west and east, indicating a settlement of considerable commercial and strategic importance within the province of Britannia. The town occupied a key position on Ermine Street and served as a major pottery production centre, with extensive kiln sites recorded in the surrounding hinterland. The surviving earthworks and archaeological deposits preserve evidence of Roman military and civilian infrastructure, including streets, buildings and defensive works, making it an important example of the transition from military outpost to urban settlement in Roman Britain.
