The site forms part of a larger grouping of funerary monuments in the south-east of East Lulworth, representing the ritual landscape of the second millennium BC. The barrows are earthen mounds constructed as burial monuments, typical of Bronze Age mortuary practice in southern England. This cemetery demonstrates the concentrated use of particular areas for elite and communal burial during the Bronze Age period.
