Redoubt No1, Redoubt No2 and Redoubt No3 at Maker Heights is a scheduled ancient monument comprising defensive artillery batteries dating from the Napoleonic Wars period, constructed in the early nineteenth century. The three redoubts were part of a wider fortification scheme designed to protect the Tamar estuary and Plymouth from potential French invasion during the prolonged conflict with Napoleonic France. Two batteries and part of a third survive at the site, retaining evidence of their characteristic earthwork construction with bastioned layouts suited to artillery deployment. These fortifications represent an important phase in Britain's coastal defence infrastructure during one of the most significant periods of military threat in the Georgian and early Victorian era.
