History & significance

Weasel Hills is a Bronze Age cairnfield and associated settlement complex located north and northwest of High Wath Ford in Cumberland. The monument comprises a prehistoric funerary cairn, multiple burial cairns forming part of the broader cairnfield, a hut circle indicating domestic occupation, and an associated field system that demonstrates the integrated pastoral and agricultural landscape of the Bronze Age period. The site exemplifies the settlement and burial patterns typical of upland Bronze Age communities in northern England, with the field boundaries and hut circle providing evidence of the contemporary land use and social organisation. The complex remains an important archaeological record of Bronze Age activity in the Lake District and Pennine upland region.
