West Kirkcarswell motte is a Medieval mound-and-bailey earthwork located in Kirkcudbrightshire, south-western Scotland. The site consists of a prominent mound typical of Norman or early medieval fortifications, constructed to serve defensive and administrative functions within the feudal landscape of the region. Such mottes were generally raised during the 12th and 13th centuries, though precise dating for individual examples often remains uncertain without archaeological investigation. The monument survives as an earthwork feature and represents an important example of early medieval military architecture in the south-west of Scotland.
