Wolsty South tower 13b is a Roman fortlet forming part of the coastal defence system established along the Cumbrian coast during the later Roman period. Located approximately two hundred metres west-north-west of New House in Cumberland, the site comprises the remains of a small fortified tower that would have served a defensive and possibly signalling function within the broader network of frontier installations protecting Roman Britain's north-western approaches. The fortlet dates to the second or third century AD and represents the type of auxiliary structure deployed to monitor and control coastal access during the later imperial occupation. The monument survives as earthwork remains that reflect the strategic importance placed by Roman commanders upon securing this remote frontier region.
