The Roman fort at Wensley lies in Wensleydale in the North Riding of Yorkshire, in territory of the Brigantes brought under Roman control from the 70s AD onward. Its precise garrison history is poorly established, but it likely formed part of the network of auxiliary posts supporting the lead-mining and east–west communications across the northern Pennines, broadly contemporary with the more securely attested forts at Bainbridge (Virosidum) further up the dale and Catterick (Cataractonium) to the east.

If correctly identified as a fort, the site would have controlled movement along the lower Ure valley between the Pennine interior and the strategic Dere Street corridor, and may have been linked to the exploitation of Wensleydale and Swaledale lead resources. Its position complements Bainbridge and suggests a more developed military presence in the dale than is sometimes assumed.
