Turret 30A is one of the regularly spaced stone watchtowers on Hadrian's Wall, positioned between Milecastles 30 and 31 in the central sector east of the fort at Carrawburgh (Brocolitia). Like its neighbours, it was built in the 120s AD under Hadrian and was likely occupied intermittently into the later 2nd century, with most turrets in this sector showing signs of abandonment or reduced use by the Antonine period and into the 3rd century.

The turret formed part of the integrated signalling and surveillance system of the Wall, providing observation over the approaches north of the curtain and communication with Carrawburgh fort and adjacent milecastles. It is not individually notable but contributes to the regular pattern of fortlets that defines this central, well-preserved stretch of the frontier.
Relatively little has been published specifically on Turret 30A; it has not been the subject of major modern excavation, and its remains are largely subsumed within the consolidated Wall in this area. Comparable turrets in the Carrawburgh–Sewingshields stretch typically reveal a small square stone tower (c. 4–4.5 m internally) bonded into the curtain, with finds limited to coarse pottery, hearth debris, and occasional small finds indicative of a small garrison detachment.
