About this property

The Powell Avenue Steam Plant is a retired steam plant and historic building in Birmingham, Alabama, United States, which operated from 1895 to 2013. Initially producing both steam and electricity, the plant stopped producing electricity in 1952. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 2014. Since 2014, there have been various plans for the plant to be redeveloped into a mixed-use development. Current owner KultureCity acquired the plant in 2025, with plans to open to the public by 2028.
