Allan Sandage was born in Iowa City, Iowa on June 18, 1926, and died on November 13, 2010. An astronomer and astrophysicist, he held the position of Staff Member Emeritus at the Carnegie Observatories in Pasadena, California. He determined the first reasonably accurate values for the Hubble constant and the age of the universe.
