Elizabeth Virginia Truman was born on February 13, 1885, in Independence, Missouri. She served as Second Lady of the United States from January to April 1945, and then as First Lady from 1945 to 1953 as the wife of President Harry S. Truman. At her death on October 18, 1982, she was the longest-lived first and second spouse, having lived 97 years and 247 days.
