Booth Tarkington was born in Indianapolis in 1869 and worked as a novelist, playwright, screenwriter, and children's writer. He wrote The Magnificent Ambersons (1918) and Alice Adams (1921), and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction more than once. Several of his stories were adapted to film.
