Biography

Gilbert M. Anderson, known as Broncho Billy, was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1880 and became the first star of the Western film genre. He worked as an actor, writer, film director, and film producer, and was a founder and star of Essanay studios. In 1958, he received a special Academy Award for being a pioneer of the film industry. He died in 1971.
