Daniel Webster was born in Salisbury, New Hampshire in 1782 and died in 1852. He worked as a lawyer, politician, diplomat, and writer, representing New Hampshire and Massachusetts in Congress and serving twice as secretary of state under William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and Millard Fillmore. Webster argued over 200 cases before the United States Supreme Court during his career. He was a member of the Federalist Party, the National Republican Party, and the Whig Party.
