Biography
Darleane C. Hoffman was born in Terril, Iowa, in 1926 and was a chemist who worked as a faculty senior scientist in the Nuclear Science Division of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and as a professor in the graduate school at UC Berkeley. She was among the researchers who confirmed the existence of seaborgium, element 106. In 2002, Discover magazine recognized her as one of the 50 most important women in science. She died on September 4, 2025.
