Biography

David Packard was born in Pueblo, Colorado in 1912 and worked as an electrical engineer and computer scientist. He co-founded Hewlett-Packard with Bill Hewlett in 1939, serving as president from 1947 to 1964, CEO from 1964 to 1968, and chairman of the board thereafter. Packard held the position of U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense from 1969 to 1971 during the Nixon administration and served as president of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences from 1976 to 1981. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1988 and died in 1996.
