Dixie Carter was born in McLemoresville, Tennessee in 1939 and worked as a television, film, stage, and voice actor as well as a singer. She played Julia Sugarbaker on the sitcom Designing Women from 1986 to 1993 and Randi King on the drama series Family Law from 1999 to 2002. She received a nomination for the 2007 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Gloria Hodge on Desperate Housewives between 2006 and 2007. Carter died in 2010.
