George Dewey was born in Montpelier, Vermont in 1837 and worked as a soldier, military officer, and admiral. He held the rank of Admiral of the Navy, a position no other person in United States history has attained. During the Spanish–American War, he achieved victory at the Battle of Manila Bay with no combat deaths among his forces. He died in 1917.
