George Seaton was an American screenwriter, playwright, film director, producer, and theater director born in South Bend, Indiana in 1911. He served as president of the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences three times, as well as president of the Writers Guild of America West and the Screen Directors Guild, and held the position of vice president of the Motion Picture Relief Fund. He won two Academy Awards for his screenplays. He died in 1979.
