Biography

Gutzon Borglum was born in St. Charles, Idaho on March 25, 1867, and worked as a sculptor and painter. He created work on Mount Rushmore and Stone Mountain in Georgia, and produced statues of Union General Philip Sheridan in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. He also created a bust of Abraham Lincoln that was exhibited in the White House and is now held in the United States Capitol crypt. Borglum died on March 6, 1941.
