Biography

Herbert Spencer Gasser was born in Platteville, Wisconsin on July 5, 1888, and worked as a physiologist, psychologist, neurologist, and physician. While on the faculty of Washington University in St. Louis, he conducted work with action potentials in nerve fibers. In 1944, he received the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, an award he shared with Joseph Erlanger. He died on May 11, 1963.
