Hoagy Carmichael was born in Bloomington, Indiana on November 22, 1899, and worked as a musician, composer, songwriter, actor, author, and lawyer. During the 1930s and 1940s he was one of the most successful Tin Pan Alley songwriters, and he was among the first singer-songwriters to use radio broadcasts, television, microphones, and sound recordings as communication technologies. He died on December 27, 1981.
