John Herbert Dillinger was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1903 and died in 1934. He was a bank robber who led the Dillinger Gang, which was accused of robbing twenty-four banks and four police stations during the Great Depression. Dillinger was imprisoned multiple times and escaped twice. He faced a homicide charge in connection with East Chicago police officer William O'Malley, though he was not convicted; O'Malley had shot Dillinger during a shootout, striking Dillinger's bulletproof vest.
