John Robert Wooden was born in Hall, Indiana in 1910 and died in 2010. He worked as a basketball player and coach, and also served as a military officer and writer. As head coach of the UCLA Bruins, he won ten NCAA national championships over a 12-year span, including seven consecutive titles—a record unmatched by any other team in Division I college basketball. His UCLA teams compiled an NCAA record of 88 consecutive wins, and he received the Henry Iba Award as national coach of the year seven times as well as the Associated Press award five times.
