Kaʻahumanu was born on Maui in 1768 and died in 1832. She served as queen consort and regent of the Hawaiian Kingdom, holding the title of Kuhina Nui. As the favorite and most politically powerful wife of King Kamehameha I, she wielded considerable power as co-ruler during the reigns of his first two successors.
