Louis Thomas Jordan was born on July 8, 1908, in Brinkley, Arkansas. A saxophonist, vocalist, songwriter, and bandleader, he performed jazz, blues, and jump blues music and gained popularity from the late 1930s through the early 1950s. He was called "the King of the Jukebox" and achieved his greatest prominence as the swing era drew to a close. Jordan died on February 4, 1975.
