Biography
Melinda Ruth Dillon was born in Hope, Arkansas, in 1939 and worked as a stage, film, and television actor. She received a Tony Award nomination in 1963 for her Broadway debut in the original production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress twice, for her roles in Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) and Absence of Malice (1981). She died on January 9, 2023.
