Michael Graves was born in Indianapolis in 1934 and worked as an architect, designer, painter, and draftsperson. He founded Michael Graves and Associates and Michael Graves Design Group, was a member of The New York Five and the Memphis Group, and taught architecture at Princeton University for nearly forty years. After experiencing partial paralysis in 2003, he became an advocate for health care design.
