Pharoah Sanders was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1940 and died in 2022. He was a jazz saxophonist known for his use of overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques, as well as "sheets of sound." Sanders worked as a member of John Coltrane's groups during the mid-1960s and later pursued solo work, releasing more than thirty albums as a leader. He collaborated extensively with vocalist Leon Thomas and pianist Alice Coltrane, among others.
