Reinhold Niebuhr was born in Wright City, Missouri, on June 21, 1892, and died on June 1, 1971. He worked as a theologian, ethicist, philosopher, political scientist, and pedagogue, serving as a professor at Union Theological Seminary for more than thirty years. Writing and speaking on religion, politics, and public policy, he authored *Moral Man and Immoral Society* and *The Nature and Destiny of Man*. In 1964, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
