Robert Bernard Altman was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1925 and worked as a filmmaker across directing, screenwriting, producing, and editing. He directed films featuring overlapping dialogue and ensemble casts, and received an Academy Honorary Award, two BAFTAs, three Independent Spirit Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, a David di Donatello Award, and a Golden Globe, along with seven Academy Award nominations. He died in 2006.
