Robert R. Wilson was born on March 4, 1914, in Frontier, Wyoming, and died on January 16, 2000. He worked as a particle physicist and nuclear physicist, and contributed to the Manhattan Project during World War II. Wilson served as the first director of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory from 1967 to 1978 and was also a sculptor and architect.
