Russell M. Nelson was born in Salt Lake City in 1924 and worked as a cardiac surgeon, cardiologist, military physician, and surgeon. He served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for nearly thirty-four years and as quorum president from 2015 to 2018. From 2018 until his death in 2025, he was the seventeenth president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a position in which the church recognized him as prophet, seer, and revelator.
